you might have already received an email having a subject line containing something like "Subject: FW: Please read this and pass it along."
funny how these kind of emails are nearly always biased toward one agenda or another... just like contemporary journalism! 8-) i guess we're so heavily indoctrinated into such an US vs. THEM mindset that it is very difficult to think outside that deceptive box.
the one i received today (below my signature) is obviously biased toward what Amerikan politicos would generally call "Conservative", in that it criticizes -- and rightly so -- the various wasteful and illegal spending within the US budget.
a call to action statement was also included, "Here’s where to save money, start with these departments!"
but i ask, WHY? shall we discontinue certain federal government departments simply because it is the desire of a particular political or philosophical whim of some people? by what standard should federal government spending and/or departments be cut?
the real answer is pretty simple: the federal government should be cut back to its legal Constitutional limitations... PERIOD! however, often when this answer is given, there are often mixed reactions dependent upon one's bias and/or agenda.
for example, when one states the fact that there is no Constitutional provision for the federal government to be involved in Public Education, a typical ignorant reaction is generally to ignore this as well as the fact that there are different levels of government having specific jurisdiction, while advancing the argument that it is our duty as a nation to provide education for all American citizens -- and apparently in many cases, for illegals as well.
similarly, when one states the fact that ever since the end of WWII, America has engaged in wars called "police actions" without any formal declaration of war, as mandated by the Constitution, the presenter of said fact is often charged with "disrespecting our troops". further, since WWII the federal government has engaged in several wars designed to have no victory conditions (aka: Endless Wars -- Drugs, Terror, Poverty, Hunger, Illiteracy, etc.), all of which can be summed up as an ongoing massive War on LIBERTY.
it seems people tend to support Constitutionally limited government only when it suits their particular philosophy and/or agenda. ironically, the email said absolutely nothing in regards to the legal mandate for a Constitutionally limited federal government! if We the People continue down this slippery slope, we can be sure that America will not recover from heading down a road of certain economic and social destruction.
getting back to this deceptive email i received, i also noticed when looking at the Wiki 2009 US Federal Budget chart, that if one were to sum both the Global War on Terror (4.75%) and the US Department of Defense (16.85%) budgets, we get a total result of 21.6% for military expenditures, which is larger than the largest pie slice of 21.05% for Social Security. perhaps the US Federal Government split this into two separate groups for a particular reason? (i call it deception! ;-)
this said, at least national defense is actually a legal Constitutional provision and power of the US Federal Government, so long as Congress and Executive branches adhere to the rules. i would imagine there would also be a major cut in the military budget should these limitations also be mandated.
regardless and as suggested by the email, if we only cut the un-Constitutional programs which this "side" fancies, it would total a budget cut of $338.3 Billion, which appears like a great cut, albeit it entirely arbitrarily derived.
however, according to David Walker, ex-US Comptroller General, if the federal government was cut back to its Constitutionally limited powers, it would total a budget cut of ~66%.
according to Wiki, the 2009 US Federal Budget expenditures were ~$3.1 Trillion. therefore, if the proposed Constitutional Budget cut was passed, it would total a budget cut of over $2 Trillion!
i'm certainly not mathematically nor economically gifted, however it appears to me that if this were done, the total revenue of ~$2.7 Trillion could be reduced by nearly one-third, which would be a budget cut of nearly $1 Trillion US Dollars per year to pay down the ongoing national debt, now estimated at ~$11.3 Trillion, which could be accomplished within around 15 years! once the national debt was paid off, that ~$.7T per year could reduce the burden of the American taxpayer.
media pundits and political talking heads have been challenging the opposition to the ongoing "economic stimulus plans" which are sending us into an ever exponentially climbing debt for an alternative to the economic plans of both the Bush and Obama administrations... well, this seems like a no brainer, eh!
so by all means... Please read this and pass it along to everyone you know, and every time you get another deceptive email which claims to contain "intelligent" political answers which we should pass on to our elected governing authorities.
in liberty,
8-)
