Cash for Hummers

LOL! yet
another example of why the government has no business whatsoever in the marketplace. isn't it ironic that the "American" government seems to have barely a clue as to the purpose of government?
in this case, some clueless governing authorities thought it was a good idea to introduce this "Cash for Clunkers" plan. now here's a real no brainer! does Congress actually get paid for their "work"?
for the life of me, i cannot understand how this is supposed to help the environment, when the autos being traded in are just going to be resold to someone else, and the person trading in their SUV will most likely replace it with another SUV because they just might need/want an SUV... DUH! 8-)
this plan sounds about as smart as introducing government subsidies for any auto manufacturer pushing one of the latest fads, hybrid cars, which have huge batteries that cost mega bucks to replace every few years or so, and then contaminate the landfills.
i think We the People might be better off if the Federal Government was run by Looney Toons! 8-)
the authoritarian control freaks (socialists & fascists) have been advancing government control over the "free market" (which arguably, America hasn't had since... ?) in nearly every aspect of private life. coming soon will be another move toward complete control over the individual's health freedoms.
i wonder if there is any area of private life which has not yet been infringed upon... i cannot think of one, can YOU?

Kind of ironic isn't it?

Funny also that my old 1998 honda accord w/205,000 miles on it doesn't qualify. It's too efficient.

So, in theory, my taxes could (and likely are) going to someone who is turning in their big SUV for another big SUV. Lovely!

President Obama touted his "Cash for Clunkers" program as a boon to the environment that will "help lessen our dangerous dependence on foreign oil, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the quality of the air we breathe."

To most people, that might mean the program would encourage the sales of new, high-mileage cars. But lest we forget, this is a government program. And that means loopholes. Patricia Murphyreports that Hummers -- along with other brutes like the Chevy Silverado and Ford Explorer -- are considered "fuel efficient" enough to qualify for the program.

The guidelines in the House-passed bill state that large SUVs and trucks, typically considered gas guzzlers in everyday conversation, qualify for the $3,500 credit, and in some cases the $4,500 credit, depending on the trade-ins that come through the door for them. New Category 2 trucks -- like the Hummer H-3, Ford Explorer, Chevy Silverado, and Toyota Tundra -- qualify if they get at least 15 MPG combined, and get at least one mile per gallon more than the car or truck being traded in.

So next time you see a Hummer on the road, give its driver a wave. He's helping to "lessen our dangerous dependence on foreign oil, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the quality of the air we breathe."
